Universal Studios Florida to close Fast & Furious: Supercharged in 2027 as Hollywood Drift arrives

Fast & Furious attraction slated for retirement as Universal reshapes its Studios Florida lineup
Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed that Fast & Furious: Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida will permanently close in 2027, aligning with the resort’s plans to introduce a new high-thrill roller coaster themed to the film franchise. The replacement attraction is titled Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, with a targeted debut year of 2027 at Universal Studios Florida.
The announcement places an endpoint on the screen-based “party bus” ride that opened in April 2018 in the park’s San Francisco area. The attraction was built as a franchise-based successor to the former Disaster! experience, reflecting a broader industry shift toward recognizable intellectual property and media-heavy ride systems.
What is planned for Hollywood Drift
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is described as a high-speed coaster featuring ride vehicles designed to rotate 360 degrees to simulate drifting. Publicly released specifications for the Orlando version include:
- Over 4,100 feet of track
- Top speed of 72 mph
- A 170-foot vertical spike element rising toward the CityWalk area
Universal has not provided a specific opening date beyond the 2027 timeframe or detailed construction sequencing for how the existing attraction footprint will transition to the new coaster.
Related changes already underway at the resort
The planned 2027 closure of Fast & Furious: Supercharged follows another significant retirement at Universal Studios Florida: the park’s signature skyline coaster, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, ended operations in mid-August 2025 after opening in 2009. Its removal created additional redevelopment flexibility in the park’s front half, and Universal has indicated the closure was to make way for a new experience.
Franchise strategy extends beyond Orlando
The Fast & Furious coaster concept is also being developed on the West Coast. Universal Studios Hollywood has announced its own Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift for a 2026 opening. In Hollywood, the existing Fast & Furious—Supercharged segment on the Studio Tour closed on March 10, 2025, setting a precedent for replacing the franchise’s screen-based format with a coaster-centered experience.
With the 2027 closure planned in Florida, Universal’s Fast & Furious offerings are shifting from simulator-style experiences to a coaster format built around speed, elevation, and rotating vehicles.
For guests, the timeline indicates at least one more full operating year for Fast & Furious: Supercharged through 2026, with the park expected to share additional milestones—such as a final operating day and construction impacts—as the 2027 transition approaches.
