Major Roadwork and Closures Starting March 16

Commuters heading into Downtown Orlando this morning should prepare for a significant new road closure as the Summerlin Avenue Improvement Project enters its next phase. Starting today, Monday, March 16, 2026, Summerlin Avenue will be closed between Livingston Street and Harwood Street. This closure is expected to last for approximately three to four months to facilitate essential underground utility replacement and infrastructure modernization. Northbound traffic on Summerlin is being detoured via Anderson Street and Mills Avenue, while southbound drivers should use Central Boulevard and Thornton Avenue to navigate around the work zone.

Additionally, the City of Orlando reports that Magnolia Avenue remains fully closed between Livingston Street and Jefferson Street for ongoing improvement work. This closure is scheduled to remain in effect through March 24, requiring drivers to use alternate north-south routes through the downtown core.

I-4 and Highway Construction Updates

Major artery travel will be impacted by several overnight projects and ongoing construction under the "I-4 Beyond the Ultimate" initiative. Motorists should be aware of the following specific alerts:

  • Central Florida Parkway: Overnight closures of Central Florida Parkway under Interstate 4 are scheduled to continue through March 17. Drivers should anticipate localized delays near the interchange during the early morning hours.
  • Exit 62 (S.R. 417 / World Drive): The eastbound I-4 off-ramp to S.R. 417 and World Drive remains subject to nightly closures from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for barrier wall installation. This work is slated to continue through March 26, affecting those traveling toward Disney World and Celebration.
  • ChampionsGate (C.R. 532): The I-4 westbound on-ramp from ChampionsGate Boulevard is closed nightly from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for lighting installation. Detours are currently directed toward U.S. 27.

Public Transport and Transit Alerts

LYNX passengers should be aware of several reroutes and stop changes effective today due to regional construction activity. Links 20 and 36 continue to follow a planned reroute due to the Church Street closure near Camping World Stadium, which remains closed for the "Stadium Reimagining" project through August 2027.

Furthermore, bus stop changes are currently in effect for Links 1, 9, 43, and 102 in the Winter Park and Maitland areas. Commuters in Seminole County are also reminded that eight former LYNX routes have been transitioned to the "Scout" on-demand service as of earlier this year.

Weather and Safety Advisory

The morning commute is currently being impacted by a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Orange and Osceola counties. While a previously issued Tornado Warning for Seminole County has expired, drivers are urged to exercise caution on wet roadways and watch for localized flooding in low-lying areas. Finally, with the Orlando City Council meeting scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today at City Hall, expect increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic near South Orange Avenue throughout the afternoon hours.
