Sewer Repairs and Cold Weather Alerts Impact Wednesday Orlando Commute

Morning Traffic Overview
Commuters in Orlando face a brisk and busy Wednesday morning this January 28, 2026. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9:00 AM, with temperatures dipping below 40 degrees across Orange and Seminole counties. While major arteries like I-4 are currently flowing at posted speeds through the downtown corridor, several significant local road closures and new construction projects are expected to shift traffic patterns throughout the day.
Major Road Closures and Detours
Drivers should be aware of a major new closure starting today. Peachtree Road is closed at West Colonial Drive for essential sewer repairs. This closure is scheduled to last through Friday, January 30. Motorists attempting to access Peachtree Road from Colonial Drive will be detoured via Edgewater Drive. City officials recommend allowing extra travel time if your route takes you through the College Park area.
Additionally, Central Florida Parkway remains closed eastbound at the I-4 interchange due to ongoing scheduled roadwork. Commuters are advised to seek alternate routes such as Sand Lake Road or SR 528 to avoid delays near the attractions area.
- Muriel Street: Closed between South Orange Avenue and Delaney Avenue for construction.
- Fern Creek Avenue: The intersection at Oregon Street remains closed for utility work.
- Fox Street: Closed between McCullough Avenue and Bennett Road in the Colonial Town Center area.
- Church Street: Construction at Camping World Stadium has closed the segment from Tampa Avenue to Rio Grande Avenue.
Highway and Expressway Updates
The "Moving I-4 Forward" initiative is now in full swing. Expect heightened construction activity and narrowed lanes near the ChampionsGate and Osceola Parkway interchanges. While no full closures are reported for this morning, intermittent lane shifts are occurring as crews work on new express lane connectors. On SR 408, a $218 million expansion project has begun this month, adding a new eastbound lane; drivers should be cautious of workers near the shoulder between downtown and the executive airport.
Public Transit and LYNX Service Alerts
LYNX riders are reminded that the system-wide service changes implemented earlier this month are in full effect. Notable changes include the discontinuation of Links 34, 45, 103, and 434. Passengers on Links 1, 23, and 102 should check updated schedules for modified routing and timepoints.
In response to the current cold snap, Orange County has activated temporary warming centers. LYNX is providing free transportation to these centers for those in need. Special pickups are scheduled for this evening, Wednesday, January 28, at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Bithlo Community Park, transporting residents to the Goldenrod Recreation Center. Riders should simply inform the driver they are traveling to a warming center to receive the free fare.
