Commute Outlook: Freezing Temperatures and Travel Precautions

Orlando commuters are facing a frigid start this Monday, February 2, 2026, as record-breaking cold temperatures continue to grip Central Florida. With a freeze warning in effect, drivers should allow extra time for their morning routines, particularly for vehicle warm-ups and defrosting. Officials have noted that the extreme cold may impact battery performance and tire pressure, so a quick vehicle check is recommended before heading out. For those utilizing public services, be aware that regional warming centers at Barnett Park and Goldenrod Recreation Centers remain open until 10:00 a.m. this morning to assist those in need before operations scale back as temperatures are expected to rise slightly later today.

Major Road Closures and Construction Detours

Several significant construction projects are impacting major surface streets in and around the Downtown and Colonialtown areas. Commuters should plan for detours on the following routes:

  • Summerlin Avenue: Total closures remain in place between Livingston Street and Ridgewood Street, as well as between South Street and Church Street. These closures are part of ongoing infrastructure improvements and are expected to last through the spring.
  • Church Street: As part of the Camping World Stadium reimagining project, Church Street is closed from Tampa Avenue to Rio Grande Avenue. Drivers heading toward the stadium district should use Central Boulevard or Gore Street as alternatives.
  • Fern Creek Avenue: The intersection at Oregon Street in Colonialtown is closed for a long-term project. Residents in the area are advised to use Thornton Avenue or Mills Avenue to bypass the blockade.
  • Muriel Street: Expect a full closure between South Orange Avenue and Delaney Avenue in the Wadeview Park area.
  • Fox Street: In the Colonial Town Center area, Fox Street is currently closed to through traffic between McCullough Avenue and Bennett Road.

Public Transit and Rail Updates

Public transportation users have several service adjustments to keep in mind for their Monday travel. LYNX has implemented bus stop changes for Links 1, 9, 43, and 102 in the Winter Park and Orange Avenue corridors due to active construction. Passengers are encouraged to check for temporary signage at their usual stops. For those in rural East Orange County, the LYNX shuttle service from Bithlo Community Park to warming centers will complete its final runs this morning as the shelters close at 10:00 a.m.

SunRail is operating on its expanded weekday schedule, which now includes additional late-night trains. This provides more flexibility for evening commuters and those attending the Epcot International Festival of the Arts, which is expected to draw moderate crowds today. Meanwhile, the I-RIDE Trolley service on International Drive continues to utilize Mears buses as supplemental vehicles to maintain frequency during ongoing construction near Red Line stop 32 South.
