Official City Notice: February 21, 2026

The City of Orlando and Orange County have issued several public service announcements and official notices effective for Saturday, February 21, 2026. Residents and visitors are advised to review the following updates regarding traffic patterns, health alerts, and upcoming municipal proceedings.

Special Event Road Closures and Transit Impacts

Due to several high-profile events taking place today, significant traffic shifts and street closures are in effect throughout the downtown core and surrounding neighborhoods. Motorists are encouraged to plan alternative routes.

  • Immerse 2026: Multiple streets in the Downtown Arts District are closed for the Immerse festival. Affected areas include Orange Avenue from Central Boulevard to South Street, Pine Street from Court Street to the railroad tracks, and eastbound lanes on South Street from Boone Avenue to Orange Avenue. These closures will remain in place until approximately 3:00 a.m. on Sunday.
  • Orlando City Soccer Home Opener: In preparation for today's match, Church Street is closed from Glenn Avenue to Division Avenue. Additionally, Central Boulevard from Westmoreland Drive to Terry Avenue will experience closures beginning at 2:30 p.m. to accommodate pedestrian traffic.
  • Community Athletics: The 18th Annual 5K Brave Run has necessitated the closure of Summerlin Avenue between Kaley Street and Lake Davis Drive.
  • Public Library Hours: The Orlando Public Library (Downtown) will close early today at 3:00 p.m. due to the extensive street closures associated with Immerse 2026.

Public Health and Environment Advisories

The Florida Department of Health in Orange County (DOH-Orange) has issued several active alerts regarding water safety and environmental conditions.

  • Blue-Green Algae Alerts: Health alerts remain active for Lake Killarney, Lake Bessie, and Lake Gatlin due to the presence of harmful blue-green algae toxins. Residents should avoid swimming, boating, or allowing pets near the water in these areas.
  • Cold Weather Preparation: Orange County officials are monitoring a cold front expected to arrive early next week. While temperatures remain stable today, the county is preparing to activate warming centers if evening temperatures drop below 40 degrees as forecasted for Monday.
  • Mosquito-Borne Illness: A regional mosquito-borne illness alert remains in effect for neighboring Brevard and Miami-Dade counties. Local residents are advised to use repellent and drain standing water to prevent the spread of viruses such as Chikungunya and Dengue.

Governance and Public Hearings

The Orlando City Council will convene for its next regular meeting on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall. Key items on the upcoming agenda include:

  • Annexation Hearing: A public hearing for Ordinance #2025-43 regarding the annexation of land north of E. Michigan Street.
  • Community Development: Deadlines are approaching for the 2026-2030 Consolidated Plan. Pre-applications for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) are due by March 13, 2026.
