Public Notice: Severe Cold Weather Advisory and Weekend Service Updates

Emergency Health Advisory: Severe Cold Weather and Arctic Blast
The City of Orlando has issued an urgent health and safety advisory following the arrival of an arctic cold front. For Saturday, January 31, 2026, temperatures are forecast to drop rapidly, with wind chills expected to reach the single digits by early Sunday morning. The City urges all residents to follow the 'Five Ps' of cold weather safety: protecting people, pets, pipes, and plants. Residents should check on elderly neighbors, bring pets indoors, and wrap outdoor pipes to prevent damage.
In response to this extreme weather event, the City, in coordination with regional partners, has activated cold weather shelters. These facilities will remain open from Saturday evening through Tuesday, February 3. Free transportation to these warming centers is being provided by LYNX for those in need. Locations include the gymnasiums at Barnett Park and Goldenrod Recreation Centers, which will open their doors at 5:00 p.m. daily.
Infrastructure and Road Closure Notices
The City of Orlando Public Works Department has scheduled critical maintenance and infrastructure repairs that will impact travel on Saturday, January 31. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes for the following areas:
- Hillcrest Street (Lake Eola Heights): A full road closure is in effect between Broadway Avenue and Cathcart Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for essential sanitary sewer repair work.
- Lake Baldwin Lane (Baldwin Park): Traffic is restricted between Jake Street and Nolan Court for the completion of a district-wide re-roofing project. This closure is scheduled to conclude by the end of the day.
- Downtown Traffic Alerts: Expect heavy pedestrian traffic and intermittent lane shifts near the Amway Center and surrounding corridors due to the Orlando Magic 5K and the Lunar New Year celebration events taking place throughout the morning.
Public Service Announcement: Community Planning and Funding
The City of Orlando Housing and Community Development Department has released a formal notice regarding the 2026-2030 Consolidated Plan. This five-year strategy outlines housing and community development priorities, specifically focusing on low-to-moderate-income residents and homeless services. The City is currently soliciting public feedback and proposals from local non-profit organizations to help shape the distribution of federal grant funding, including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG).
Official Departmental Changes
The City of Orlando officially recognizes the assuming of command by Chief Jason Revoldt as the 22nd Fire Chief of the Orlando Fire Department. Chief Revoldt brings over 24 years of service to the role, overseeing all current emergency medical responses and fire prevention operations within city limits.
