Official City Notice: Health and Public Safety Advisories

As of Sunday, January 25, 2026, the City of Orlando has issued several critical health and safety alerts. Residents and visitors are urged to exercise heightened caution in public spaces and along the theme park corridor. Local health officials have identified a significant increase in highly contagious influenza strains. Due to lower-than-average vaccination rates this season, the virus is spreading rapidly through high-traffic tourist areas. Additionally, a specific health warning remains in effect for Lake Davis Park. Following a confirmed case of avian flu in a bird near the area, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recommends that the public avoid all direct contact with local waterfowl. Any sightings of sick or dead birds should be reported immediately to wildlife authorities.

Weather Alert: Winter Storm Fern and Visibility Hazards

Orlando is currently under a weather advisory as Winter Storm Fern moves across the East Coast. While Central Florida has largely avoided the ice and snow impacting northern states, the region is experiencing a volatile transition in weather patterns. On the morning of January 25, dense patchy fog is expected to impact visibility on major thoroughfares, including I-4 and SR 408. Following record-breaking warmth in the low 80s earlier this weekend, a sharp cold front is projected to arrive by late Sunday evening. Residents should prepare for a significant drop in temperatures and potentially hazardous driving conditions during the overnight transition.

Ongoing Infrastructure and Road Closure Schedule

The City of Orlando continues several multi-year infrastructure improvements that affect local transit. The following closures are active this Sunday:

  • Summerlin Avenue: Closed between South Street and Church Street for critical pipeline and sewer system replacements. Detours are in place via Thornton Avenue and Mills Avenue.
  • Camping World Stadium Area: Church Street remains closed from Tampa Avenue to Rio Grande Avenue as part of the ongoing stadium reimagining project.
  • Creative Village: Southbound Putnam Avenue is closed between Amelia Street and Federal Street for construction.
  • Baldwin Park: Lake Baldwin Lane is restricted between Jake Street and Nolan Court due to scheduled maintenance.
  • Colonialtown North: Roadwork continues at the intersection of Fern Creek Avenue and Oregon Street, as well as near Lift Station 2.

Administrative Reminders

Following the scheduled maintenance of the Clerk of Courts online payment system, digital services have resumed for the public. Residents are also reminded that the Orlando City Council will convene for its next regular meeting tomorrow, Monday, January 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall. Public comment requests for this session must be submitted by 9:00 a.m. on the day of the meeting.
