Orlando City Council Meeting and Agenda Review

The City of Orlando has scheduled a hybrid City Council meeting for today, Monday, March 16, 2026. The session will be held at City Hall in the Council Chambers, located at 400 S. Orange Avenue on the second floor, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the main session, an Agenda Review meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. This preliminary meeting is the primary opportunity for public input regarding Consent Agenda items (Items A-K and Items 4-6).

Residents may participate in person or virtually via Zoom. Those wishing to provide public comment must have submitted a written request to the City Clerk’s Office by 9:00 a.m. today. For those unable to attend, the meeting will be broadcast live on the city’s official website, the City YouTube page, and Orange TV Channel 488.

New Traffic Advisories and Major Road Closures

Several significant infrastructure and utility projects are commencing today, resulting in new road closures and traffic shifts across the metropolitan area. Motorists are advised to plan for additional travel time or use alternate routes:

  • Summerlin Avenue: A full closure begins today between Livingston Street and Harwood Street. This project involves the replacement of underground water mains and utility infrastructure. The closure is expected to last approximately three to four months, though the intersection at Harwood Street will remain open.
  • Clay Avenue: Closed starting today between Bay Run Street and Pelham Road for essential underground utility work.
  • Fern Creek Avenue: Closed between Robinson Street and Harwood Street for sewer rehabilitation. This project began at 5:00 a.m. this morning.
  • Southeast Bike Trail: The trail is currently closed from Dowden Road to Macaris Street to facilitate milling and paving work.
  • Virginia Drive: Expect lane shifts between Alden Road and New York Avenue for sanitary manhole repairs.

Ongoing work also continues on Magnolia Avenue, which remains closed between Livingston Street and Jefferson Street for the Magnolia Avenue Improvement Project, with an anticipated completion date of March 24.

Public Service Announcements and Funding Deadlines

The City of Orlando reminds local non-profit organizations that while the pre-application window has closed, final applications for Program Year 2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funding are due by Friday, March 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. These funds are dedicated to supporting public services and facility upgrades for low- and moderate-income residents.

Additionally, a general health advisory remains in place regarding local water bodies. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid swimming, boating, or allowing pets to come into contact with water in areas where active algal blooms are visible. Observations of potential blooms should be reported to the city's environmental department for testing.
