City of Orlando Official Holiday Observance

In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, 2026, the City of Orlando has announced several operational updates and service modifications. Residents are encouraged to review these notices to ensure they are informed of local government closures and special weather advisories currently in effect for the Central Florida region.

Administrative Closures and Public Meetings

Orlando City Hall and all non-essential city services will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026. This closure includes administrative offices for the Mayor and City Commissioners, as well as general city business operations. Normal business hours and operations will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Due to the holiday, the next regularly scheduled Orlando City Council meeting will take place on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

Residential Trash and Recycling Schedule

In a departure from typical holiday scheduling, the City of Orlando Solid Waste Division has confirmed that residential trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will occur as regularly scheduled on Monday, January 19. Residents whose normal pickup day falls on Monday should place their bins at the curb by 6:00 a.m. as they would on any other service day. This ensures that holiday waste management remains on track for all city neighborhoods.

Parking Enforcement Holiday

To accommodate residents and visitors participating in holiday events, on-street parking meter spaces will not be enforced on Monday, January 19. Drivers may park in these spaces throughout the day without payment. However, all other parking regulations, including those concerning fire hydrants, accessible parking spaces, and loading zones, remain in full effect to ensure public safety.

Urgent Health and Weather Advisory: Freeze Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for Orlando and surrounding areas, effective from Sunday night through Monday morning, January 19. Temperatures are forecasted to drop as low as 25 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind chill values potentially reaching the low 20s. Public health officials advise all residents to take necessary precautions to protect the '7 Ps': People, Pets, Plants, Pipes, Pools, and Vehicles, while also practicing Fire Safety when using indoor heating equipment. Cold weather shelters may be available for those in need; residents should contact local community centers for the latest placement information.

Community Service Opportunities

The city is sponsoring multiple 'Day On, Not a Day Off' service events. These include the 'MLK 2026 Great Day of Service - Million Meal Pack,' which seeks to mobilize 5,000 volunteers to pack meals for local families, and the 'Seedlings for Civil Rights' beautification project at the Rosemont Community Center, focusing on planting and litter removal to honor Dr. King’s legacy of community improvement.
