Orange County Special Meeting: Infrastructure Surtax

The Orange County Board of County Commissioners has scheduled a special meeting for Monday, March 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the County Administration Center. The primary agenda item involves a presentation from the Trust for Public Land regarding feasibility research and public opinion surveys for a potential Local Government Infrastructure Surtax. This session aims to gauge community priorities and public sentiment on future infrastructure funding before commissioners determine if the surtax will be placed on the November 2026 General Election ballot. Members of the public are invited to attend the session in the County Commission Chambers.

City of Orlando Committee Notices

The City of Orlando has issued official notices for administrative and advisory meetings taking place at City Hall on Monday, March 2, 2026. These meetings are open to the public in accordance with Florida’s Sunshine Law:

  • 6th Advisory Committee Meeting: This session regarding Request for Proposals RFP26-0046 will be held as an in-person meeting to discuss ongoing procurement evaluations.
  • Consultants' Qualification Board: A meeting for RQS26-0123 and RFP26-0004 is scheduled to evaluate professional services and vendor qualifications for upcoming municipal projects.

Traffic Alert: ChampionsGate Boulevard and I-4 Closures

The Florida Department of Transportation has announced significant overnight closures beginning Monday, March 2, 2026. Both eastbound and westbound ChampionsGate Boulevard (County Road 532) will be closed underneath Interstate 4 between 10:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. These closures are required to facilitate the demolition of the existing I-4 westbound bridge. Detour signage will be posted directing motorists to use Osceola-Polk Line Road and Ronald Reagan Parkway. These nightly operations are expected to continue through March 17.

Health Advisory: Blue-Green Algae Alerts

The Florida Department of Health in Orange County continues to monitor local waterways for harmful algal blooms. Active health cautions remain in place for the following locations due to the presence of blue-green algae toxins:

  • Lake Gatlin (West Shore): Recent samples indicate the continued presence of toxins.
  • Lake Killarney (Near Center): A health alert remains active following recent water quality assessments.

Health officials advise residents and visitors to avoid swimming, wading, or using watercraft in areas where blooms are visible. Additionally, pet owners should ensure that animals do not drink from or enter the water in these designated areas.

Ongoing Road Construction

Several long-term construction projects continue to impact local traffic as of March 2, 2026. Brookhaven Drive remains closed from Alden Road to the construction site at The Yard at Brookhaven, with an expected completion date in early 2027. Putnam Avenue also remains closed to southbound traffic between Amelia Street and Federal Street for the Beacon at Creative Village development.
