Significant Delays Expected Near Universal and Downtown

Orlando commuters and visitors should prepare for a busy travel day this Sunday, February 8, 2026. With Super Bowl Sunday attracting massive crowds to the region, particularly around the Universal Orlando Resort and CityWalk areas, traffic is expected to be significantly heavier than a typical Sunday. Security lines and resort transportation are already seeing increased volume, and local authorities recommend allowing at least an extra 30 to 45 minutes for travel in the southwest tourism corridor.

Overnight Ramp Closure: S.R. 408 to I-4

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced a critical overnight closure that will affect late-night travelers. Starting at 8:00 p.m. tonight, the eastbound State Road (S.R.) 408 exit ramp to eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) at Exit 10B will be closed for essential concrete work. The closure is scheduled to last until 6:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Detour Information: Motorists traveling eastbound on S.R. 408 who need to access eastbound I-4 are instructed to take Exit 10A toward westbound I-4. Drivers should continue to Exit 81 (Michigan Street), turn left, and then follow the posted signage to re-enter the eastbound I-4 on-ramp.

Active Roadworks and Lane Closures

Beyond the major interchange work, several other construction projects will impact traffic throughout the day:

  • S.R. 33 Paving: Expect rotating northbound and southbound lane closures along S.R. 33 from Domenico Court to Anderson Road today between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. for paving and drainage construction.
  • S.R. 434 Maintenance: Alternating single lane closures are scheduled on S.R. 434 between Slade Drive and Talmo Street from 8:00 p.m. tonight into tomorrow morning for striping installation.
  • U.S. 1 Resurfacing: Intermittent lane closures will begin at 9:30 p.m. on U.S. 1 (S.R. 5) between Century Oaks Circle and Myers Drive.
  • Church Street Closure: Due to the ongoing Camping World Stadium reimagining project, Church Street remains closed from Tampa Avenue to Rio Grande Avenue.

Public Transportation and LYNX Alerts

LYNX riders should be aware of several active detours due to long-term construction projects. The LYMMO Orange Line continues its detour around Magnolia Avenue, and Links 20 and 36 are rerouted away from Church Street. Residents are also reminded that SunRail does not provide service on Sundays. With the influx of visitors for the big game and the kickoff of Mardi Gras festivities at the theme parks, LYNX buses on international drive and near the Kia Center may experience delays due to surface street congestion.
