Overnight Closures at ChampionsGate and Significant MCO Delays This Tuesday

Tuesday Morning Traffic Overview

Commuters in the Orlando area should prepare for a mix of ongoing infrastructure projects and significant disruptions at the airport this Tuesday, March 3, 2026. While the morning rush is moving relatively well on the main I-4 corridor through downtown, those traveling near the tourism hubs and those heading to Orlando International Airport (MCO) will face notable challenges today.

I-4 and Major Highway Alerts

Construction as part of the Moving I-4 Forward initiative continues to impact travel in the southwest corridor. Motorists should be aware of the following:

  • ChampionsGate Boulevard (C.R. 532): A full overnight closure of ChampionsGate Boulevard under I-4 is in effect. While the road is open during daytime hours, it will close again tonight at 10:00 p.m. and remain closed until 5:30 a.m. Detours are in place using Osceola-Polk Line Road and Lake Wilson Road.
  • I-4 Westbound Shift: Following the successful traffic shift over the weekend, westbound traffic between mile markers 58.5 and 56.7 is now utilizing the newly constructed lanes. Watch for new lane configurations and a new bridge over ChampionsGate Boulevard.
  • Lane Closures: Expect nightly lane closures on both eastbound and westbound I-4 near the ChampionsGate interchange from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. through the end of the week.
  • World Drive: Overnight intermittent ramp closures at the I-4 and World Drive interchange concluded early this morning, but travelers should remain alert for lingering maintenance crews in the area.

Downtown and Local Road Closures

Within the city limits, several long-term projects are affecting local navigation:

  • Summerlin Avenue: Sections between Livingston Street and Ridgewood Street, as well as between South Street and Church Street, remain closed for utility and roadwork.
  • Church Street: Road closures persist between Tampa Avenue and Rio Grande Avenue as part of the Camping World Stadium reimagining project.
  • Colonialtown North: Garden Plaza is currently closed from Weber Street to Illinois Street for the ongoing Lift Station 2 project.

Aviation and Public Transit Alerts

The most significant travel alert today involves Orlando International Airport (MCO). Due to the ongoing DHS shutdown entering its 18th day, TSA staffing levels are under pressure as agents receive reduced paychecks starting today. Over 170 flight disruptions are expected, with departure delays averaging 30 minutes. Travelers are advised to arrive at the terminal earlier than usual.

For bus commuters, LYNX is hosting two public information sessions today regarding proposed service changes for April 2026. The first session will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the LYNX Central Station Lobby, followed by a virtual session from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. SunRail continues to operate on its standard weekday schedule with 30-minute frequencies during peak hours.
