A major rebuild funded by Orange County tourism taxes

Camping World Stadium is undergoing a $400 million improvement project designed to modernize the nearly 90-year-old venue and expand its event capabilities. The funding was approved in late 2024 through Orange County’s Tourist Development Tax, a 6% levy applied to hotel and short-term lodging stays, commonly referred to as the “bed tax.”

The project follows a decade of substantial prior work at the stadium, including a $207.7 million reconstruction completed in 2014 and additional upgrades totaling $60 million in 2021. With this new phase, officials say the stadium is being “reimagined” with extensive work across seating, circulation, building systems and the exterior.

Construction timeline and road closures now in effect

Construction is scheduled to run from December 2025 through summer 2027, with work beginning at the north end of the stadium. As part of the build-out, long-term street closures are tied to the project footprint and logistics.

  • Church Street between Rio Grande Avenue and Tampa Avenue: closed beginning Dec. 8, 2025, with vehicle traffic restricted through summer 2027 (sidewalk access planned to remain open, with possible short-term interruptions).
  • Rio Grande Avenue between Anderson Street and Church Street: closure scheduled for March 2, 2026.
  • Additional future closures have been identified for segments of South Street, with timing subject to project scheduling.

What is changing inside and outside the stadium

Permanent seating capacity is planned to rise from roughly 63,000 to 65,000. Plans also call for replacement of upper-level bleacher seating with individual chairback seats and armrests, and a reconfiguration of the upper-bowl layout to improve continuity and spectator flow.

Design materials and recent renderings show a new exterior identity incorporating integrated lighting and a metallic skin, with programmable color-changing LED elements under development. The project also includes guest entry and circulation upgrades, modernization of stadium systems, and improvements aimed at reducing congestion at gates and enhancing wayfinding.

New event space planned on the stadium campus

In addition to stadium upgrades, the plan includes a new multi-purpose indoor events center on the stadium campus. The venue is intended to support standalone programming—such as youth sports, exhibitions and shows—while also serving as supplemental space for major stadium events.

Operations during construction and local workforce plans

Events are expected to continue during construction under a phased approach intended to limit disruptions. Project partners identified for the work include a design team led by DLR Group and a construction management joint venture of Barton Malow and AECOM Hunt, with Florida Citrus Sports involved in the venue’s event operations.

The project’s completion target is summer 2027, with construction activity planned to overlap with scheduled events as work advances in phases.

A community impact plan outlines recurring job fairs beginning in January 2026 and workforce training partnerships with local educational institutions focused on skilled trades and pre-apprenticeship pathways.
