Bundle Up, Orlando: Freeze Warning and Sunny Chill for MLK Day

Residents and visitors in Orlando should prepare for one of the coldest days of the season this Monday, January 19, 2026. While the sun will be out in full force to celebrate the holiday, a significant cold snap has gripped Central Florida. A sharp cold front that moved through the region over the weekend has left temperatures well below the seasonal average, making heavy coats and layered clothing a necessity for anyone heading to the theme parks or local outdoor events today.

Morning: A Frigid and Frosty Start

The day begins under a Freeze Warning and a Cold Weather Advisory, both issued by the National Weather Service and remaining in effect until 9:00 AM EST. For those early risers, the conditions are biting; temperatures at sunrise are hovering in the mid-to-upper 30s across Orange County. However, the thermometer does not tell the full story. With north winds blowing between 5 and 10 mph, wind chill values have plummeted into the mid-to-upper 20s, with some areas reporting a "feels-like" temperature as low as 26 degrees.

In addition to the cold, patchy frost is expected across the region before 8:00 AM. Commuters and travelers should be mindful of frost on windshields and sensitive outdoor plants. Despite the chill, the sky will remain almost entirely clear, offering a bright but deceptive start to the morning.

Afternoon: Sunshine with a Bite

As we move into the afternoon, the sun will be a constant companion, but it will do little to significantly warm the air. Expect high temperatures to peak between 57 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit. This is approximately 15 to 20 degrees cooler than the typical Orlando average for mid-January. The humidity remains low, sitting at around 49%, which will make the air feel crisp and dry.

The lack of cloud cover means UV levels will be moderate, so sun protection is still recommended for those spending the day outdoors. The northerly breeze will persist, keeping a steady chill in the air even during the brightest part of the day. There is a 0% chance of rain, ensuring that umbrellas can stay at home while heavy sweaters stay on.

Evening and Night: The Chill Returns

Once the sun sets at approximately 5:54 PM, temperatures will drop rapidly. The evening forecast calls for clear skies and a steady cooling trend. By late evening, the mercury will descend back into the 40s, eventually reaching an overnight low near 39 degrees. While not as extreme as the previous night, it will remain a very cold night for Florida standards. Looking ahead, a gradual warming trend is expected to begin on Tuesday, but for tonight, the clear and crisp conditions will require heaters and extra blankets once again.
