Orlando Public Committees and Special Magistrate Convene for Monday Sessions

Administrative Committees and Advisory Boards Lead Monday’s Government Agenda
While the Orlando City Council and the Orange County Board of County Commissioners are not holding full legislative sessions today, Monday, March 9, 2026, the wheels of local government continue to turn through several critical committee meetings and quasi-judicial sessions. Today’s activities are centered on specialized policy reviews, procurement decisions, and community-level development discussions that set the stage for upcoming major votes later this month.
City of Orlando: Procurement and Public Safety Benefits
At the city level, two distinct committees are meeting to handle internal administrative and personnel matters. The Firefighter Cancer Claims Committee is holding a virtual session today to review health-related claims and benefit allocations for the city’s first responders. This committee plays a vital role in ensuring that the specialized insurance and health protections enacted for the Orlando Fire Department are properly administered.
Additionally, the first committee meeting for RFP26-0004 is scheduled to take place in person at City Hall. This session marks the beginning of the evaluation process for a new city contract. These Request for Proposal (RFP) committees are essential to the city’s transparency and fiscal responsibility, as they are tasked with scoring competitive bids from private vendors for municipal projects and services.
Orange County: Legal Reviews and Disability Advocacy
Across the street at the Orange County Administrative Center, the Special Magistrate is holding a day-long session. These meetings are quasi-judicial in nature, focusing on code enforcement disputes, property liens, and other legal compliance issues. The Special Magistrate has the authority to issue rulings on local ordinance violations that do not require the full attention of the Board of County Commissioners but remain vital for neighborhood maintenance and legal order.
In the afternoon, the Orange County Disability Advisory Board will convene to discuss accessibility initiatives and policy recommendations. This board serves as a liaison between the community and county leadership, ensuring that public infrastructure and services remain compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and inclusive of all residents.
Community Development and Future Planning
Local growth remains a primary focus this evening as two community meetings regarding rezoning are scheduled. Sessions for projects RZ-25-10-009 and RZ-26-03-011 will allow residents to provide direct feedback on proposed land-use changes. These meetings are a required step before the requests move to a final vote before the Board of County Commissioners, which is next scheduled to meet on Tuesday, March 10. Residents can also visit City Hall today to view the ongoing 2026 Black History Month Exhibition, which remains on display in the Terrace Gallery.
