Orlando Police arrest Ocoee nurse after hospital patient reports sexual battery during overnight care

Arrest follows more than a year after initial report at Orlando hospital
An Ocoee nurse has been arrested in connection with allegations that he sexually battered a disabled patient while providing overnight care at an Orlando hospital, authorities said. The case centers on a report made in January 2025 at a hospital on East Rollins Street, where the patient told officers she had been sexually battered during her stay.
The suspect was identified as Abedinecho Kyalo Katue, 46. He was arrested on Wednesday following what police described as a lengthy investigation. Jail records show he is being held without bond.
What investigators say the patient reported
In the initial report, the patient told police she believed her nurse was responsible. The patient’s medical condition was described as physically limiting: her right leg had been amputated and her left foot was in a cast.
According to the arrest affidavit, the patient said the nurse entered her room multiple times during the night and into the early morning, made personal comments about her appearance, and told her he wanted to take “special care” of her. The patient alleged that the nurse later penetrated her with a finger while presenting the act as a genital check, and she said it was unrelated to the surgery she had undergone.
The charges filed in the case treat the alleged conduct as occurring while the patient was both disabled and physically incapacitated.
Charges filed and what happens next
Katue faces two felony allegations: sexual battery on a physically incapacitated person and lewd or lascivious battery on a disabled person. An arrest is not a finding of guilt; the charges will be tested in court through the criminal process.
At this stage, key questions likely to shape the case include what corroborating evidence was gathered during the investigation, how the patient’s physical condition affected her ability to resist or consent, and how any recordings referenced by investigators will be evaluated for clarity and context.
Broader implications for patient safety and oversight
Sexual battery allegations involving hospitalized or disabled patients raise distinct oversight challenges for health care settings, where patients may be immobilized, medicated, or dependent on staff for intimate care. Cases like this typically focus investigative attention on documentation of care, staffing assignments, room-entry logs, and internal reporting protocols.
- Timeline: report made in January 2025; arrest made in early March 2026.
- Setting: a hospital on East Rollins Street in Orlando.
- Status: suspect held on no bond while charges proceed through court.
Additional court hearings are expected as prosecutors outline evidence and defense attorneys respond to the allegations.
