Orlando Advisory Boards Convene Today to Address Affordable Housing and Urban Design

Advisory Boards Lead Local Governance Today
While the Orlando City Council prepares for its next regular session on February 23, several of the city’s most influential advisory boards are meeting today, Thursday, February 19, 2026, to move forward on critical initiatives regarding housing and urban development. These sessions represent a vital part of the municipal process, where citizen-led committees review policy and provide recommendations that ultimately shape the votes of the Mayor and City Commissioners.
Affordable Housing Advisory Committee Session
At 2:00 p.m. today, the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee is holding a hybrid meeting in the City Hall Council Chambers. This committee is tasked with reviewing established policies, land development regulations, and city ordinances to identify barriers to housing accessibility. Today’s agenda focuses on recommending specific initiatives to the Mayor and City Council that could facilitate the development of affordable units within the city limits. The committee is comprised of various stakeholders, including experts in the residential building industry, advocates for low-income residents, and local elected officials.
Appearance Review Board Evaluates Downtown Projects
Simultaneously, the Appearance Review Board (ARB) is meeting at 2:00 p.m. in the Sustainability Conference Room at City Hall. The ARB plays a central role in maintaining the aesthetic standards of the Downtown Community Redevelopment Area (CRA). During today's hybrid session, the board will review applications for Certificates of Appearance Approval. These certificates are required for new construction and major renovations in the downtown core. The board’s recommendations are essential for ensuring that new development aligns with the city's long-term vision for a walkable, visually cohesive urban environment.
Orlando Housing Authority and Local Updates
Beyond City Hall, the Orlando Housing Authority (OHA) Board of Commissioners is also scheduled to meet today at 390 North Bumby Avenue. As the primary agency responsible for managing public housing and rental assistance programs in the city, the OHA's session will address administrative updates and the ongoing management of local housing projects.
In other government activity, a bid opening for a municipal construction project (IFB26-0112) that was originally scheduled for this morning was officially canceled. Residents are encouraged to look ahead to the next full City Council meeting on Monday, which will feature final votes on items reviewed by these advisory boards today.
