Orange County Commissioners Convene for Key Tourism Vote; Mayor Dyer to Lead City Hall Reception

Orange County Board of County Commissioners Session
The Orange County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) is scheduled to convene today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, for a regular session at the County Administrative Center. The meeting, which begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Commission Chambers located at 201 S. Rosalind Avenue, features a robust agenda focusing on regional economic development and community milestones.
A primary item on today’s discussion agenda is the Third Amendment to the 2019 Tourism Promotion Agreement. This item, which was deferred from late January, involves significant coordination between the county and local tourism partners to refine marketing strategies and funding allocations for the current fiscal year. Commissioners are also expected to receive updates regarding the Orange County Financial Empowerment Center, highlighting progress in providing residents with specialized financial counseling and support services.
In addition to legislative business, the Board will issue an official proclamation recognizing February as Black History Month. This annual tradition sets the stage for a series of county-wide events honoring the contributions of African Americans to the Central Florida region.
City Hall and Local Government Activities
While the Orlando City Council does not hold a formal voting session today, the City of Orlando is hosting several official government-led activities. This afternoon, Mayor Buddy Dyer, alongside City Commissioners Shan Rose and Bakari F. Burns, will host the opening reception for the 2026 Black History Month Art Exhibition. The event is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Terrace Gallery within Orlando City Hall. This year’s exhibition, titled “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” showcases 52 works from nearly 30 local artists.
Additionally, the City’s Technical Review Committee is scheduled to meet virtually at 2:00 p.m. to review upcoming site plans and development projects. These sessions are critical for ensuring that new construction in the downtown and surrounding districts aligns with the city's growth management standards and environmental regulations.
Environmental and Community Sessions
Today also marks the local observance of World Wetlands Day. The Orlando Wetlands Park is hosting public information sessions to celebrate the park's role in local water reclamation and habitat preservation. Simultaneously, the Beardall Senior Center is holding several city-sponsored sessions, including public health workshops and instructor-led fitness classes aimed at residents with Parkinson’s disease, reflecting the city's ongoing commitment to community wellness and accessible programming.
