Official Public Notice: Winter Weather Advisories and Infrastructure Updates

Public Health and Utility Advisories
As of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the City of Orlando and regional agencies have issued several critical safety advisories. Following the impact of Winter Storm Fern and a significant arctic blast, the U.S. Department of Energy has issued emergency orders for the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) to ensure grid reliability. OUC reported record-breaking winter peak demand this week, and while the system remains stable, officials continue to monitor energy loads through the early part of February. Residents are encouraged to report any localized outages and practice energy conservation while freezing temperatures persist.
In the neighboring Maitland area, a precautionary boil-water notice remains active for all municipal utility customers. This advisory follows a mechanical failure at a water plant on February 1. Residents are instructed to bring all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, or brushing teeth to a rolling boil for at least one minute. The notice is expected to remain in effect until the city completes two consecutive days of satisfactory water quality testing.
Additionally, the Florida Department of Health in Orange County has issued health alerts for blue-green algae toxins at Lake Killarney and Lake Gatlin. Residents and visitors should avoid contact with the water, including swimming or boating, and ensure that pets are kept away from the shoreline until the health caution is lifted.
Infrastructure and Road Closures
Significant roadwork is currently impacting traffic patterns across the city. Residents should plan for delays or seek alternate routes in the following areas:
- Camping World Stadium Area: Church Street remains closed from Tampa Avenue to Rio Grande Avenue as part of the stadium reimagining project. This major closure is scheduled to persist through August 2027.
- Wadeview Park: Muriel Street is closed between South Orange Avenue and Delaney Avenue for ongoing construction, with an expected completion date of February 28, 2026.
- Colonialtown North: The intersection of North Fern Creek Avenue and Oregon Street is closed for utility and lift station improvements. Completion is slated for the end of February.
- Summerlin Avenue: Closures continue between Livingston Street and Ridgewood Street. This specific phase of work is scheduled to conclude by February 6, 2026.
