City Council Approves $160 Million for Downtown Revitalization
Following the City Council meeting on Monday, February 9, 2026, officials have formally approved a significant financing plan utilizing $160 million in Tax Increment Revenue Bonds. This funding is designated for several major infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the downtown core. A primary focus of this investment is 'The Canopy,' a project set to convert 10 acres of space beneath Interstate 4 into a landscaped urban gathering area, a rideshare hub, and approximately 300 new parking spaces. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
Additional projects supported by these bonds include roadway and walkability improvements along Church Street, enhancements to Lake Eola Park, and the planned conversion of Orange Avenue and Rosalind Avenue to two-way traffic. Residents should prepare for long-term construction phases as these projects move toward a projected 2027 completion.
