Public Engagement: Mayor’s 2026 Open House and Job Fair

Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings is hosting a public open house and job fair today, Saturday, January 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Orange County Administration Center in downtown Orlando. This family-friendly event offers residents a unique opportunity to meet the Mayor and County Commissioners. The event features over 30 interactive booths from various county departments, providing information on local services and government functions. Additionally, Human Resources representatives are on-site to assist with job applications and provide information on current employment opportunities within the county. Free parking is available for attendees at the Administration Center and at the lot located at the corner of Jackson Street and Liberty Avenue.

Public Health and Environmental Advisories

The City of Orlando and the Florida Department of Health have issued several active advisories for the weekend:

  • Avian Flu Warning: City officials have alerted visitors to local parks regarding an increased risk of avian flu. While specific park confirmations are pending, a bird recently tested positive for the virus in the nearby area. Residents are urged to avoid close contact with birds and to refrain from handling them directly.
  • Blue-Green Algae Caution: A health caution remains in effect for Lake Gatlin. Recent testing by the Florida Department of Health in Orange County confirmed the presence of blue-green algae. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid water activities, including swimming or boating, in areas where blooms are visible.

Transportation and Infrastructure Updates

Several major construction projects continue to impact traffic patterns throughout the city. Drivers are encouraged to plan for extra travel time in the following areas:

  • Camping World Stadium Area: Church Street remains closed between Tampa Avenue and Rio Grande Avenue as part of the ongoing stadium renovation project. This closure is expected to remain in place through the summer of 2027.
  • Colonialtown North: Infrastructure work related to the Lift Station 2 Forcemain Project continues to affect Garden Plaza and the intersection of Fern Creek Avenue and Oregon Street.
  • Wadeview Park and Downtown: Muriel Street is closed between South Orange Avenue and Delaney Avenue. Additionally, Summerlin Avenue remains closed between Livingston Street and Ridgewood Street for utility repairs.
  • LYNX Service Adjustments: Significant service changes took effect earlier this month. The LYMMO Lime line has shifted to a new loop alignment via Gore Street and Orange Avenue. Several regional routes, including Links 34, 45, and 103, have been discontinued.
