The City of Orlando and Mayor Buddy Dyer officially invite the community to participate in the 25th annual Bike to Work Day, held today, Thursday, March 5, 2026. As part of Florida Bike Month, this event encourages residents to swap their vehicles for bicycles to highlight the city's ongoing commitment to multi-modal transportation and safety. Participants are invited to join a group ride through downtown Orlando, where city officials will provide updates on local bike projects and infrastructure improvements aimed at making Orlando a world-class, bicycle-friendly community.
Public Meeting Schedule for March 5, 2026
In accordance with Florida’s Sunshine Law, the following public meetings are scheduled to take place today. Members of the public are encouraged to attend in person or via the provided virtual platforms to offer input on municipal governance:
- Joint Quarterly Pension Board Meeting: A hybrid session involving the PAC, Police, and Firefighters' Pension Boards will convene to review investment performance and fund health.
- MetroPlan Orlando Municipal Advisory Committee: This committee meets at 9:30 a.m. at 250 S. Orange Ave. The agenda includes construction status updates from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and local transit reports from LYNX.
- Bid Opening for RFP26-0159: The Procurement and Contracts Division will conduct a formal bid opening today for construction project RFP26-0159, part of the city's ongoing capital improvement plan.
Traffic and Infrastructure Advisories
The City of Orlando Public Works Department has issued several active traffic advisories for Thursday, March 5. Residents should plan for potential delays in the following areas due to essential maintenance and drainage improvements:
- Colonialtown Drainage Project: The intersection of North Fern Creek Avenue and Oregon Street remains closed as part of the Phase II Drainage Improvement project. This work is expected to continue through March 11.
- Summerlin Improvement Project: Summerlin Avenue at Livingston Street remains closed to through traffic. This modernization project involves upgrading OUC’s potable water systems and the city’s sanitary sewer infrastructure.
- Brookhaven Drive: A long-term closure continues on Brookhaven Drive between Alden Road and Virginia Avenue for the Yard at Brookhaven construction project.
Housing and Community Development Notice
The City of Orlando is moving forward with a formal request to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the release of program funds targeted for the renovation of the Lake Davis Apartments. This project, managed by Housing Neighborhood Development Services (HANDS), involves critical upgrades to the 36-unit affordable housing complex located on Catherine Street. Additionally, the city reminds non-profit organizations that the pre-application deadline for the 2026-2027 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is Friday, March 13, 2026.
