City Council Meeting and Public Hearings

The Orlando City Council will convene for its regular meeting on Monday, February 9, 2026. The session is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers located on the second floor of City Hall at 400 South Orange Avenue. Residents may attend in person or participate virtually via the city’s official Zoom link. An Agenda Review session will precede the main meeting at 1:00 p.m.

During this session, the Council will hold a formal public hearing regarding Ordinance #2026-1. This proposed enactment concerns the vacating, closing, and abandoning of approximately 91 feet of West Illiana Street, specifically the area south of West Michigan Street and east of the CSX railroad. Members of the public who wish to provide testimony on this matter or other consent agenda items must submit their request to speak to the City Clerk’s Office by 9:00 a.m. on the day of the meeting.

Public Works and Traffic Advisories

The City of Orlando’s Transportation Department has several active road closures and infrastructure projects in effect for Monday, February 9. Motorists are advised to plan for delays in the following areas:

  • Summerlin Avenue: Summerlin Avenue remains closed between Hillcrest Street and Colonial Drive for ongoing construction work. This closure is expected to persist through April 30, 2026.
  • Fox Street: Construction activities have prompted a full closure of Fox Street between McCullogh Avenue and Bennett Road in the Colonial Town Center area.
  • Muriel Street: Traffic is restricted on Muriel Street between South Orange Avenue and Delaney Avenue due to a long-term roadway improvement project in Wadeview Park.
  • Regional Lane Closures: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reports that paving operations will cause alternating single-lane closures on S.R. 401 between S.R. 528 and the Canaveral Space Force Station starting this evening from 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

Public Health and Environmental Notices

The Florida Department of Health in Orange County continues to monitor local environmental conditions. A health caution remains active for Lake Gatlin (West Shore) due to the presence of blue-green algae. Residents are reminded to avoid swimming, wading, or using personal watercraft in areas where blooms are visible. Furthermore, under the state’s "Healthy Florida First" initiative, the Department of Health has issued updated transparency reports regarding food safety testing, specifically highlighting findings related to glyphosate levels in various retail bread products.
