Public Health Advisory: Harmful Algal Blooms
The Florida Department of Health in Orange County has issued continued health cautions regarding the presence of blue-green algae in several local water bodies. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid contact with water in areas where blooms are visible. As of March 6, active alerts remain in place for the western shore of Lake Gatlin, the northern shore of Lake Bessie, and Lake Conway at Nela Avenue. Additionally, a specific health alert for blue-green algae toxins is active for Lake Killarney near the center of the lake. Do not drink, swim, wade, or use personal watercraft in these areas while the blooms are present. Keep pets away from the shoreline and do not allow them to drink the lake water.
Administrative Update: Board Meeting Cancellation
The City of Orlando has officially updated its public meeting calendar for Friday, March 6, 2026. The scheduled meeting of the Building and Fire Codes Board of Appeals has been canceled. Citizens who were planning to attend or provide testimony on pending appeals should monitor the city’s official meeting portal for notification regarding the rescheduled date. Traffic and Roadway Operations
The following road closures and lane adjustments are active today, March 6, to facilitate critical infrastructure maintenance and utility upgrades:
- North Orange Blossom Trail (U.S. 441): Expect alternating single-lane closures in both directions between Wadsworth Road and Sacred Oak Drive from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for final punch-list work.
- Clarcona Ocoee Road: Westbound single-lane closures are in effect from Pine Hills Road to Hiawassee Road until 5:30 p.m. for sidewalk reconstruction.
- U.S. 441 at North Pine Hills Road: Northbound single-lane closures will continue through 5:30 p.m. due to ongoing drill shaft operations.
- U.S. 192 (S.R. 500): Intermittent inside and outside lane closures are reported between Brandywine Lane and Babcock Street. Work is scheduled to conclude for the day by 6:00 p.m.
- State Road 40 Movable Bridge: Motorists traveling over the St. Johns River should prepare for single-lane closures in both directions for concrete removal and grate maintenance through 5:00 p.m.
Community Service Announcements
The Orange County Neighborhood Services Division is hosting the "Taking the CON Out of Consumer" forum today at the Holden Heights Community Center. This educational session focus on consumer protection and fraud prevention. Please note that this event has reached maximum capacity and on-site registration is not available for walk-ins. In the Baldwin Park area, a special use permit is active for the "First Friday" event at Harbor Park. Residents can expect increased pedestrian traffic and amplified sound in the vicinity from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
