Planning and Development Focus at City Hall

Today, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the City of Orlando’s government schedule is highlighted by the meeting of the Municipal Planning Board (MPB). The session, which began at 9:00 a.m. in the City Council Chambers, marks a critical point in the 2026 development calendar. As the primary advisory body to the Orlando City Council on matters of land use and zoning, the MPB is tasked with reviewing several high-profile projects that define the city's current growth trajectory.

According to official city notices, today’s agenda includes recommendations for various residential and commercial developments. While the specific project list is refreshed monthly, major initiatives currently under the city’s review for early 2026 include the ongoing reimagining of Camping World Stadium and major medical expansions, such as the Advent Health Cancer Center in the North Orange area. The board’s decisions today serve as the formal recommendation for the full Orlando City Council, which is scheduled to meet next on February 23, 2026.

Changes to Public Participation

Today’s session also highlights a shift in how residents interact with city government. Following a policy update that went into effect late last year, virtual participation for Municipal Planning Board meetings has been discontinued. Members of the public wishing to offer testimony or feedback on zoning changes must now attend in person at City Hall. However, the city continues to provide a live stream for those who wish to observe the proceedings remotely.

Parks and Advisory Board Activity

In addition to the planning session, the Families, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is scheduled to meet virtually later today. This advisory group is focusing on the city’s 2026 community beautification efforts and youth programming. Their work aligns with several city-permitted events taking place today, including a mindfulness piano concert at Lake Eola Park and a instructor-led wellness class organized by the Orlando Ballet.

Cultural and County Updates

While City Hall is bustling with advisory board activity, the Terrace Gallery is currently hosting the 2026 Black History Month Exhibition. This year’s exhibition is particularly significant as it honors the centennial of national Black history commemorations. The display features works from dozens of local artists and is open to the public throughout the day.

Meanwhile, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) is not in session today. Official county calendars indicate a recess for the board on February 17, following their heavy agenda on February 10 which saw the adoption of new film incentive policies and the approval of federal grants for regional mobility hubs. The BCC is expected to return to its regular Tuesday schedule later this month.
