Downtown Orlando Traffic Alert: Immerse Festival Begins

Commuters and residents should prepare for significant traffic shifts in Downtown Orlando today, Friday, February 20, 2026, as the Immerse Festival officially kicks off. The multi-day event, which draws thousands of visitors to the city core, has triggered several major road closures that will remain in effect through Sunday. Heavy pedestrian activity is expected, and local authorities are advising motorists to seek alternative routes or utilize public transit to avoid the gridlock.

Key Road Closures and Detours

The following primary thoroughfares in the downtown area are currently closed to all vehicular traffic:

  • South Orange Avenue: Closed between Central Boulevard and South Street.
  • Pine Street: Closed from Court Street to the Allure Restaurant and Lounge area.
  • Church Street: Closed from Court Street west to the railroad tracks.
  • South Street: Eastbound lanes are restricted at the intersection of Boone Avenue.
  • Jackson Street: Closed from Magnolia Avenue to Orange Avenue.

In addition to festival-related closures, ongoing infrastructure work on the I-4 and SR 408 interchange continues to impact the morning and evening rush hours. Commuters should expect daily shoulder closures from the South Street exit to the SR 408 off-ramp. Overnight concrete work on the eastbound SR 408 exit ramp to eastbound I-4 (Exit 10B) may also leave residual delays for early-morning travelers.

Public Transportation and Commuter Options

To mitigate the expected congestion, transit officials recommend using SunRail or LYNX services. LYNX has announced planned reroutes for several major lines due to the festival, including the LYMMO Orange and Lime lines. Other affected routes include Links 3, 7, 11, 13, 15, and 18. Passengers should check for specific stop relocations near the downtown core.

For those traveling late, SunRail is operating its Winter Express schedule, which features expanded evening service. This includes a northbound train departing Poinciana at 8:45 p.m. and a southbound train leaving DeLand at 9:55 p.m., providing a reliable alternative for those attending events downtown without the hassle of festival parking.

Commuter Tips for Friday

If you must drive through the downtown area, consider using SR 417 or SR 429 to bypass the city center entirely. Allow at least 20 to 30 minutes of extra travel time if your route involves the I-4 corridor or the Beachline (SR 528). Ride-share users should utilize designated drop-off zones to prevent further blocking of open traffic lanes near the Orange County Convention Center and the downtown festival footprint.
