Magnolia Avenue Detours and SR 408 Ramp Work Impacting Wednesday Commutes

Downtown Commuter Alert: Magnolia Avenue Construction
Orlando commuters should prepare for significant changes in the downtown core this Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Following yesterday’s official groundbreaking by City of Orlando officials, Phase 1 of the Magnolia Avenue two-way conversion project is now in full swing. This major infrastructure effort aims to transform Magnolia Avenue from a one-way street into a two-way corridor between South Street and Livingston Street.
As of this morning, crews have begun work to eliminate several dedicated bus lanes and prepare for the integration of LYMMO operations into general traffic flow. Motorists using Magnolia Avenue as an alternative to Orange Avenue should expect lane shifts and localized closures throughout the business district. While sidewalks remain open, the city recommends using Rosalind Avenue or Garland Avenue to avoid delays during peak morning and afternoon hours.
Major Arteries and Highway Roadworks
On the highways, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues its safety enhancement project on the loop ramp connecting eastbound State Road 408 to eastbound Interstate 4. Commuters should expect daily shoulder closures on this ramp from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Crews are currently installing new barrier walls and speed feedback signage. Additionally, the $218 million expansion of the 408 eastbound between Orange Blossom Trail and I-4 remains active, with heavy machinery present as a fifth lane is added to alleviate long-term congestion.
- Laureate Boulevard: Starting at 4:00 p.m. today, a new traffic pattern and lane shift will take effect between Veterans Way and Benavente Avenue for roundabout construction.
- Muriel Street: Total closure remains in effect between South Orange Avenue and Delaney Avenue for sanitary sewer replacement.
- Fern Creek Avenue: The intersection at Oregon Street in Colonialtown is closed for the Fern Creek Improvement Project.
- Putnam Avenue: Southbound lanes are closed between Amelia Street and Federal Street in the Creative Village area.
Public Transport and LYNX Alerts
LYNX riders are advised that the LYMMO Orange Line (Link 60) is currently operating on a planned detour due to the Magnolia Avenue construction. Buses are being rerouted to avoid the work zones between South Street and Livingston Street, which may lead to minor timing delays. Commuters are also reminded of the system-wide service changes that took effect last month, which included the discontinuation of several regional links and the introduction of expanded late-night weekday service on SunRail.
Commuters traveling to Orlando International Airport should be aware of increased passenger volume this week following the launch of new international direct routes. Transit officials recommend arriving at LYNX Central Station earlier than usual if connecting to airport-bound links.
