Tuesday Commute Overview

Good morning, Orlando. As we move through Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the commute is largely following typical rush hour patterns, but significant construction projects and scheduled maintenance will impact travel tonight and throughout the week. While the major downtown festival detours have recently cleared, local roadworks in several historic neighborhoods and major artery expansions on I-4 remain the primary focus for Central Florida drivers.

Major I-4 Arteries and Overnight Maintenance

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced specific lane closures for tonight that will affect late-shift workers and early Wednesday commuters. On the eastbound side of I-4 in Seminole County, the bridge over Orange Boulevard will see right-lane closures starting at 10 p.m. tonight and lasting until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. Similarly, westbound motorists should be aware of lane closures on the I-4 bridge over Dirksen Drive in Volusia County during the same overnight window.

Long-term construction zones continue to dictate traffic flow in the southern parts of the metro area. Commuters should prepare for ongoing congestion near the following major interchanges:

  • Sand Lake Road (SR 482): The reconstruction of the interchange into a diverging diamond is still in an active phase, which frequently results in lane shifts and narrowed pathways between Turkey Lake Road and I-4.
  • SR 535 Interchange: Partial reconstruction of the Apopka-Vineland Road and I-4 interchange continues, including the development of new loop ramps and westbound express lane connections.
  • SR 408 Connector: Daily shoulder closures are in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. between the South Street exit and the SR 408 off-ramp as crews perform utility and concrete work near the downtown core.

Local Road Closures and Neighborhood Detours

Within the City of Orlando, several long-term infrastructure and utility projects are reaching critical milestones this month. Residents in Colonialtown and Wadeview Park should plan for the following active closures today:

  • Fern Creek Avenue: The intersection at Oregon Street in Colonialtown remains fully closed as part of the Lift Station 2 Forcemain project.
  • Muriel Street: Traffic is currently blocked between South Orange Avenue and Delaney Avenue in Wadeview Park. This closure is expected to remain in place through the end of the month.
  • Putnam Avenue: In the Creative Village area, southbound lanes are closed between Amelia Street and Federal Street for the Beacon project.
  • Brookhaven Drive: Access remains restricted from Alden Road to the east of the 'Yard at Brookhaven' development.

Public Transportation Alerts

LYNX users should be mindful of the system-wide service adjustments that were implemented at the start of the year. Links 40, 105, and 302 have updated timepoints and minor routing changes to improve reliability. Furthermore, if you are heading toward Inter&Co Stadium today, be aware of localized detours for the Grapefruit Line due to scheduled events and ongoing surrounding construction.

SunRail continues to operate its "Winter Express" evening schedule, providing two additional evening trains for those staying late in the city. A northbound train departs Poinciana at 8:45 p.m., while the final southbound train leaves the DeLand station at 9:55 p.m., offering a reliable alternative to late-night highway congestion.
