Traffic Overview: Major Events Spark Downtown Congestion

Orlando commuters and weekend travelers should prepare for significant delays this Saturday, February 21, 2026. The city is hosting two major events simultaneously—the 2026 Immerse Festival and the Orlando City Soccer home opener—which will result in extensive road closures across the downtown core. Additionally, long-term construction projects under the Moving I-4 Forward initiative continue to affect traffic flow on the region's main arteries.

Downtown Orlando Road Closures

The 2026 Immerse Festival is currently active, leading to several multi-day closures that remain in effect until early Sunday morning. Motorists are advised to avoid the following areas to prevent gridlock:

  • South Orange Avenue: Closed between Central Boulevard and South Street.
  • Pine Street: Closed from Court Street to the railroad tracks.
  • Church Street: Closed between Court Street and the railroad tracks (west).
  • South Street: Eastbound lanes closed at Boone Avenue.
  • Jackson Street: Closed from Magnolia Avenue to Orange Avenue.

Adding to the downtown congestion, the Orlando City Soccer home opener at Inter&Co Stadium will trigger further closures starting at noon today. Church Street will be blocked in segments from Garland Avenue all the way to Westmoreland Drive. Central Boulevard will also see closures between Westmoreland and Terry Avenue starting at 2:30 p.m. to accommodate heavy pedestrian traffic and fan festivities near the stadium.

I-4 and Regional Highway Updates

On the highways, the Moving I-4 Forward project is currently focused on the southern corridors. Nightly lane closures are scheduled on I-4 in both directions at ChampionsGate (C.R. 532) from 8:00 p.m. tonight through 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning. These closures are necessary for ongoing embankment work and soil hauling.

Travelers heading toward the attractions should note that the major traffic shift at the World Drive interchange remains in place. While three general-use lanes are maintained in each direction, traffic has been moved to newly constructed median lanes to allow for reconstruction of the original eastbound lanes. On U.S. 441 (Orange Blossom Trail), continuous northbound lane closures remain in effect from Beggs Road to the S.R. 414 ramps, reducing the roadway to a single lane.

Public Transport Alerts

LYNX riders should expect significant reroutes due to the downtown festivities. The LYMMO Orange, Lime, and Grapefruit lines are operating on modified paths to bypass festival grounds. Routes 19, 20, 21, and 36 are also diverted to accommodate the soccer match crowds near the stadium. Passengers are also reminded that the LYNX Board of Directors is meeting today at 11:30 a.m., which may affect administrative services at the central station. For those traveling from Seminole County, remember that most traditional bus routes have been replaced by the Scout on-demand van service as of last month.
