Federal jury convicts Orlando man in online child sextortion scheme prosecutors say involved more than 50 victims

Verdict follows allegations of impersonation, coercion and threats directed at children online

A federal jury has found 20-year-old Orlando resident Montrey Roseberry guilty in a child sextortion case that prosecutors said involved more than 50 victims. The verdict includes convictions for coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, production of child sexual abuse material, and possession of child sexual abuse material.

The case centers on conduct prosecutors said occurred from at least July 14, 2023, through at least April 2024. Authorities alleged Roseberry used social media to identify children and then impersonated a woman while pressuring victims to send sexually explicit images and videos of themselves.

How prosecutors said the scheme escalated

Investigators alleged that once explicit material was obtained, it was used as leverage to force additional content. Prosecutors said threats included sharing previously obtained images and videos with victims’ family members, friends and classmates. In some instances, authorities said victims were threatened with death.

Prosecutors also described intimidation tactics meant to demonstrate access to victims’ real-world identities. Authorities said victims were sent photographs of their homes and were shown that the offender had information about their schools and people in their lives.

The charging documents described the conduct as an effort to “extort, intimidate, and threaten” children into producing child sexual abuse material.

Charging history and what comes next

Roseberry was indicted in March 2025 on multiple counts. The indictment included three counts of coercion and enticement of a minor, three counts of production of child sexual abuse material and one count of possession of child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors stated at the time that, if convicted, the charges carried the possibility of a life sentence.

Sentencing in the case is scheduled for May 28, 2026, in federal court. The court will determine the sentence after reviewing statutory factors and federal sentencing guidelines, and after considering arguments from prosecutors and defense counsel.

Why the case fits a broader enforcement focus

Federal authorities have made online child exploitation investigations a sustained enforcement priority, often involving coordination across agencies and jurisdictions. Cases like this one typically rely on digital evidence, platform records and victim interviews, reflecting how sexual exploitation crimes can begin as online communications but quickly translate into severe coercion and lasting harm.
