Sunday Morning Traffic Overview

Good morning, Orlando. For those hitting the roads this Sunday, February 22, 2026, the commute is split into two distinct stories. While regional highways like the 408 and 417 are seeing typical light Sunday morning volume, Downtown Orlando is facing significant disruptions. Multiple large-scale events, including the final day of the Immerse Festival and the annual Dragon Parade, have triggered extensive road closures and public transit detours that will remain in effect throughout the morning and early afternoon.

Major Downtown Road Closures

Commuters and residents in the downtown core should prepare for a complex navigation environment. The 2026 Immerse Festival has occupied approximately ten city blocks. Although some teardown procedures may begin later today, the following arteries are currently closed to vehicle traffic:

  • South Orange Avenue: Closed from Central Boulevard to South Street.
  • Pine Street: Closed between Court Street and the railroad tracks.
  • Church Street: Restricted access from Court Street to the Garland Avenue viaduct.
  • Jackson Street: Closed from Magnolia Avenue to Orange Avenue.

Additionally, the Dragon Parade is impacting the Lake Highland area. Expect closures along Lake Highland Drive from Spokane to Thornton Avenue, and Thornton Avenue down to Colonial Drive. Drivers are encouraged to use Hughey Avenue or Rosalind Avenue as primary north-south alternatives, though heavy pedestrian traffic is expected near the Dr. Phillips Center for the MLK Gospel Concert later today.

I-4 and Highway Construction Updates

On the major interstates, the I-4 corridor is largely clear through the attractions area, though standard Sunday volume is building near the exits for Sand Lake Road and SR 535. Residual delays may be present near ChampionsGate (C.R. 532) following overnight maintenance work related to the Moving I-4 Forward project. While lanes have reopened, motorists should remain alert for construction debris and shifted lane markings in the median between World Drive and U.S. 27.

Public Transit and SunRail Alerts

As is standard for Sundays, SunRail is not in operation today. Commuters who typically rely on the rail system must seek alternative transport. LYNX bus service is running on its Sunday schedule, but significant reroutes are in place for downtown travelers. Links 3, 7, 11, 13, 15, 18, 60, and 61 are all operating on detours to bypass the Immerse Festival site. If you are traveling to the LYNX Central Station, expect your route to take an additional 10-15 minutes due to these diversions.

Airport Travel (MCO)

Travelers heading to Orlando International Airport (MCO) should check parking status before arrival. Surface lots and Terminal C garages are currently the best options, as Garages A and B are nearing capacity this morning. Allow extra time for drop-offs due to high passenger volume at the departures curb.
