Official City Updates for Monday, February 2, 2026

The City of Orlando has issued several critical public notices regarding downtown infrastructure, commemorative sites, and federal funding opportunities. Residents and commuters are advised to review the following updates to ensure they are prepared for changes in traffic patterns and public space accessibility starting today.

Pulse Memorial Site: Construction Fencing Installation

Beginning today, Monday, February 2, 2026, city officials will commence the installation of construction fencing at the site of the former Pulse nightclub. This action is a preparatory step for the scheduled demolition of the existing structure, which is slated to occur in mid-March. While the installation of this fencing will make the temporary memorial largely inaccessible to the public, the city has designated a specific perimeter area where visitors may continue to leave perishable tributes, such as flowers, throughout the construction period. These changes are part of the ongoing progress toward establishing a permanent memorial. A public design update meeting is currently scheduled for March 5 to discuss the next phases of the project.

Major Infrastructure: Magnolia Avenue Phase 1

Commuters should prepare for significant delays in the downtown core as the Magnolia Avenue Improvement Project officially enters Phase 1 today. As of 4:00 AM this morning, Magnolia Avenue is closed to all through traffic between Livingston Street and Jefferson Street. This closure is necessary for comprehensive utility and streetscape enhancements and will remain in effect until further notice. Residents are encouraged to use alternate north-south routes, such as Orange Avenue or Rosalind Avenue, to avoid congestion.

Ongoing Construction and Road Closures

In addition to the new Magnolia Avenue project, the following road closures remain active as of February 2:

  • Muriel Street (Wadeview Park): Closed between South Orange Avenue and Delaney Avenue for sanitary sewer work. This project is expected to continue through February 28, 2026.
  • Fern Creek Avenue at Oregon Street: The intersection remains closed for gravity sewer improvements, with an estimated completion date of February 28.
  • Garden Plaza (Colonialtown North): Closed from Weber Street to Illinois Street for ongoing drainage repairs, scheduled to last through April 30, 2026.
  • Bumby Avenue: Closed between Jamie Circle and Weber Street for safety improvements through February 13.

Public Meetings and Federal Funding Notices

The City of Orlando is currently soliciting proposals from non-profit organizations for the 2026-2027 Program Year federal funding allocations. These funds include the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), which prioritize affordable housing and homelessness prevention. While the mandatory pre-application link will be released on February 9, the formal notice of funding availability is active today. Additionally, a meeting between Mayor Dyer and Commissioner Ortiz is scheduled for today, February 2, to discuss district-specific initiatives.
