Anna Eskamani reports reaching $1 million in contributions as Orlando’s 2027 mayoral race takes shape

A headline fundraising marker in an open-seat contest
State Rep. Anna V. Eskamani has reported surpassing $1 million in total campaign contributions for her bid to become Orlando’s next mayor, a milestone that places early fundraising at the center of a race still more than a year away. Orlando’s next mayoral election is scheduled for Nov. 2, 2027, and the contest is expected to be an open-seat race after longtime Mayor Buddy Dyer said in January 2025 that he did not plan to seek another term.
Eskamani’s campaign has periodically released contribution totals over the past year, including a March 2025 update citing $425,555 raised from 3,774 donations and 3,336 donors, and an October 2025 update stating the campaign had received more than $750,000 in contributions to date. A July 2025 campaign update also described a post-session fundraising burst of nearly $100,000 between June 17 and June 30, after Florida’s annual legislative session concluded.
How campaign money is tracked in Florida
Florida’s campaign-finance system requires candidates and political committees to disclose detailed records of contributions and expenditures, including identifying information for donors and, for contributions over $100, an occupation field. The regulatory framework is set out in Chapter 106 of Florida Statutes and is administered through state and local reporting systems depending on the office sought.
For sitting lawmakers, fundraising is also shaped by ethics rules that restrict soliciting and accepting campaign money during the legislative session, creating a calendar effect that can compress fundraising into windows before and after session.
What early fundraising can signal — and what it cannot
Crossing the $1 million threshold does not determine an outcome in a nonpartisan municipal election, but it can affect campaign capacity well ahead of Election Day. Fundraising influences staffing, voter outreach, paid communications, compliance operations, and the ability to respond to opponents as the field develops.
At the same time, early totals do not provide a full picture without details such as cash on hand, spending rate, and the composition of contributions. Prior campaign disclosures and summaries from Eskamani’s team have emphasized a large number of small-dollar donations and repeat grassroots giving, alongside some larger individual contributions reported earlier in the campaign cycle.
