New nonstop option targets leisure travel between North Alabama and the Orlando region

Allegiant Air is set to begin nonstop service between Huntsville International Airport (HSV) and Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) on Feb. 12, 2026, adding a direct connection between North Alabama and the Orlando area’s secondary commercial airport.

The Huntsville–Orlando route is part of a broader market entry for Allegiant at HSV, where the carrier is launching multiple Florida nonstop options across late 2025 and early 2026. In addition to Orlando Sanford, Allegiant has announced nonstop HSV service to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport beginning Nov. 19, 2025, and to St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport beginning March 5, 2026.

What travelers should know about the Huntsville–Orlando (Sanford) route

The new service is designed around point-to-point travel rather than hub connections, aligning with Allegiant’s network model that emphasizes nonstop leisure routes between mid-size markets and vacation destinations.

  • Route: Huntsville International (HSV) to Orlando Sanford (SFB)
  • Start date: Feb. 12, 2026
  • Airport choice: The service is to Orlando Sanford, not Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Local announcements tied to the route rollout indicate the Florida routes from Huntsville are expected to begin with limited weekly frequency, consistent with how Allegiant typically schedules new leisure markets.

Sanford vs. Orlando International: operational and consumer impact

For Central Florida travelers, the arrival of another nonstop market into Sanford underscores the airport’s continuing role as a base for low-cost and leisure-oriented flying. Sanford is located in Seminole County, north of downtown Orlando, and functions differently than Orlando International, the region’s primary airport by passenger volume and airline presence.

For travelers, the difference often comes down to ground transportation and total trip cost. A Sanford itinerary may be more convenient for destinations in north Orlando and areas such as Lake Mary, Sanford, and parts of Volusia County, while being less direct for visitors headed to the south and southwest portions of the metro area. The route also introduces another option for Central Florida-bound travelers originating in the Huntsville region who previously relied on connections or alternative nearby airports for nonstop access.

How the Huntsville entry fits Allegiant’s wider expansion

The Huntsville additions were announced alongside other new nonstop routes across the carrier’s network, including a planned Orlando International (MCO)–Appleton, Wisconsin route beginning Jan. 16, 2026. The Huntsville package, however, focuses specifically on Florida destinations and represents a targeted build-out rather than a single-route test.

With three Florida nonstop routes timed across November 2025 through March 2026, Allegiant’s Huntsville launch is structured as a coordinated entry into the North Alabama market.

As the Feb. 12, 2026 start date approaches, travelers can expect details such as exact operating days, seasonal adjustments, and available fare types to be reflected in the airline’s published schedule.
